Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the ShopSEO Chrome extension reads, what it does with that information, and the choices you have. The extension works inside your browser and does not send your browsing data to us.
Who we are
The ShopSEO Chrome extension is an SEO inspector for web pages and Shopify stores, operated by Curious Objects (“ShopSEO,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies only to the extension. The ShopSEO app for Shopify is covered by our main privacy policy.
Information the extension reads
The page you inspect. When you open the extension on a tab, it reads that page to show its SEO details: the title, meta tags, canonical and robots tags, headings, links, images and alt text, structured data, social tags, and hreflang tags. On Shopify stores it also reads the store’s public details, such as its theme, the apps and services the page loads, and its public product catalog.
A screenshot of the visible page. The extension captures the visible part of the tab to show a page preview. The screenshot stays in memory while the extension is open and is not saved or sent anywhere.
This information is processed in your browser, only when you open the extension. It is not sent to ShopSEO or stored on our servers.
Requests made on your behalf
- Core Web Vitals. To show loading and responsiveness data, the extension sends the address of the page you inspect to Google’s Chrome UX Report API. Google handles that request under its own privacy policy.
- Link status checks. If you choose to check link status, the extension asks for permission and then requests the linked pages directly from your browser to read their status codes.
- Shopify catalog. On Shopify stores, the extension reads the store’s public product catalog from the store itself.
Information stored on your device
The extension saves two preferences in Chrome’s local storage: the tab you last viewed and whether you have hidden app tips. CSV exports you download are saved to your own computer. None of this is sent to us.
What we do not do
The extension does not require an account and does not collect personal information. It has no analytics or advertising, does not track your browsing, and we do not sell, share, or transfer any data from it. Our use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Permissions
- Active tab and scripting let the extension read the page you open it on, only when you open it.
- Storage keeps the two preferences described above on your device.
- Access to other sites is optional and requested only when you start a link status check.
Children’s privacy
The extension is a business tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the extension changes. Significant changes will be reflected on this page before they take effect.
