Check every page, every week
ShopSEO runs these checks across your whole store, not one page, and fixes most of what it finds. The full audit is on the Free plan.
Three steps, no account.
- 1
Write or load
Type a title and description, or load them from any page by its address.
- 2
Watch the widths
Each bar fills as you type. Past the line, Google cuts the text off.
- 3
Copy it into Shopify
Paste the final title and description into the page's search engine listing.
What it checks
Write or paste a page title and meta description and see them as a Google search result on desktop and mobile, with the width of each measured in pixels, the way Google cuts them. Load an existing page to start from what it has now.

What each number is telling you.
A report you cannot interpret is just a longer way of saying something is wrong.
Pixels, not characters
Google cuts titles at about 600 pixels on desktop. Wide letters like W and M fill it faster than narrow ones, which is why character limits are only a rough guide.
The bars
Green has room to spare, amber is close to the edge, and red goes past it, so the end will be cut off.
Mobile
On phones the title can wrap to two lines and the description to three, so more fits, but the start still matters most.
The mechanism, not the platitude.
- 01
The title is your ad
In search results, the title and description are the only things a shopper reads before choosing whether to click.
- 02
Cut-off text loses the point
If the product name or the reason to click falls after the cut, nobody sees it.
- 03
Google rewrites weak ones
Titles and descriptions that are too long, too short or off-topic are often replaced by Google's own pick from the page.
What this usually turns up, and the fix.
Four problems that account for most of what this tool reports on a Shopify store.
The finding
The store name eats the title
Why it happens
Themes add the store name to the end of every title.
The fix
Keep the product and its key detail first, so the store name is what gets cut.
The finding
Descriptions all look the same
Why it happens
One template used for every product with nothing specific.
The fix
Lead with what makes this product different: material, fit, use.
The finding
Titles in capital letters
Why it happens
Wide capitals use up the width fast.
The fix
Use normal sentence or title case; it fits more and reads better.
What this will not tell you.
Every tool has a boundary. Knowing where this one ends is what keeps you from over-reading it.
- Widths are measured in Arial at Google's sizes, which is very close but not exact. Treat the line as a guide.
- Google sometimes rewrites titles and descriptions to match the search. The preview shows what you set, not every variation.
