Free Shopify SEO audit
Score any Shopify store in about 30 seconds.
Paste a store URL and get a health score across crawlability, on-page SEO, structured data, images, broken links and accessibility — with a written fix for every issue. The full report is emailed to you as a PDF.
What it checks
- Crawlability, indexation and robots directives
- Meta titles, descriptions and heading structure
- JSON-LD structured data validity and duplicate blocks
- Broken internal links across every template
- Image formats, sizes, file names and alt text
- Accessibility — alt text, link labels and contrast
What each number is telling you.
A report you cannot interpret is just a longer way of saying something is wrong.
The score, and what it is not
A weighted roll-up of every check, out of 100. It is useful as a before-and-after marker on your own store and close to meaningless between two different stores — a 40-product shop and a 40,000-product catalog fail different checks at different volumes. Watch the direction it moves, not the absolute number.
Severity
High means the issue sits on a template, so one bad product page usually means every product page. Medium means it is real but bounded. Anything unlabelled is worth fixing when you are already in that part of the admin.
Counts per category
The number of affected URLs, not the number of distinct problems. ‘412 products missing a meta description’ is one fix applied 412 times, not 412 pieces of work.
The guided fix
Every finding carries a written recommendation. If one does not make sense for your store, it is the recommendation that is wrong — ignore it, and tell us.
The mechanism, not the platitude.
- 01
Templates multiply everything
A Shopify store is a handful of templates rendered thousands of times. A missing field in the product template is not one bug, it is one bug times your catalog. That is why spot-checking a few pages misses so much.
- 02
The damage is invisible until it is not
Nothing on your storefront looks broken when a meta description is empty or a schema block is malformed. You find out when a page that should rank does not, months later, with no obvious cause.
- 03
Imported catalogs are the worst offenders
Products pulled from an ERP or a supplier feed arrive with SKU codes as titles and manufacturer copy duplicated across every variant. That is the highest-volume finding on large stores.
What this usually turns up, and the fix.
Four problems that account for most of what this tool reports on a Shopify store.
The finding
Thousands of products with no meta description
Why it happens
Shopify leaves the field blank and falls back to truncated body copy. Nobody fills it in by hand at catalog scale.
The fix
Write one pattern per product type rather than one description per product. Lead with material and cut, not the brand name.
The finding
Collection pages with duplicate titles
Why it happens
Faceted filters and sort parameters generate near-identical URLs that all inherit the same title.
The fix
Canonicalise the filter and sort parameters, then give the base collection a title that names what is actually in it.
The finding
Structured data emitted twice
Why it happens
The theme outputs a Product block and an app outputs another. They disagree, so Google ignores both.
The fix
Pick one source — usually the app, since it tracks your catalog — and turn the other off.
The finding
Products indexed but not ranking
Why it happens
Descriptions duplicated across variants make the pages near-identical, so Google picks one and drops the rest.
The fix
Make each variant page say something the others do not, or canonicalise variants to the parent product.
What this will not tell you.
Every tool has a boundary. Knowing where this one ends is what keeps you from over-reading it.
- It reads your public storefront, so anything behind a password or a customer login is invisible to it.
- It cannot see your Search Console or analytics data, so it cannot tell you which findings are costing you the most traffic.
- It reports what is wrong. It does not predict what a fix is worth — anyone who claims to is guessing.
No. The audit runs against your public storefront only. Installing the app adds the parts that need Admin API access, like revenue weighting and Search Console data.
Yes, and it is the same scoring engine that runs inside the paid product. We ask for an email so we can send the full PDF; three fields, nothing else.
Most of it does, but the Shopify-specific checks — theme structure, metafield usage, Markets configuration — will be skipped.
