Free llms.txt generator for Shopify
Tell AI assistants what your store sells.
Three steps, no account.
- 1
Enter your store address
Your own domain or your .myshopify.com address.
- 2
Your catalog is read
Collections, products and pages come from the store's public data, with prices in its currency.
- 3
Paste it into your theme
Add the llms.txt.liquid template in your theme's code editor, and check yourstore.com/llms.txt.
What it checks
Enter your store's address and get an llms.txt written from your own collections, products and pages: a plain-language map that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and other assistants can read. For Shopify stores it comes as an llms.txt.liquid template that keeps Shopify's own agent links.
ShopSEO checks this across your whole store and fixes it for you. AI assistant (MCP) in the app
- Written from your real collections, products and pages
- Prices and stock, in your store's currency
- Keeps Shopify's agent and MCP links
- A plain version for sites not on Shopify
What each number is telling you.
A report you cannot interpret is just a longer way of saying something is wrong.
The summary
The name and one-line description at the top are what an assistant reads first. Make sure the description says what you sell, not a slogan.
Collections and products
Each entry is a link with a short description, the format llms.txt uses so assistants can find the right page.
Optional links
Links to the sitemap, Shopify's agent instructions and the store's MCP endpoint, so assistants that want more can find it.
The mechanism, not the platitude.
- 01
Shoppers ask AI now
When someone asks an assistant for a merino beanie, it answers from what it can read. A clear llms.txt is a direct way to be read correctly.
- 02
The default says how, not what
Shopify's default llms.txt explains how agents can shop a store. It does not say what the store sells or which pages matter.
- 03
Plain words travel
Assistants read a short Markdown file faster and more reliably than a page full of scripts and menus.
What this usually turns up, and the fix.
Four problems that account for most of what this tool reports on a Shopify store.
The finding
The description is a tagline
Why it happens
The store's meta description is a slogan rather than what it sells.
The fix
Edit the line under the name to say plainly what you sell and who for.
The finding
Seasonal collections listed
Why it happens
Sale and campaign collections are in the store's public list.
The fix
Delete them from the file before you paste it, and keep the evergreen ones.
The finding
No products found
Why it happens
The store has switched off its public product data, or is not on Shopify.
The fix
The file is built from the homepage instead; add your main products by hand.
What this will not tell you.
Every tool has a boundary. Knowing where this one ends is what keeps you from over-reading it.
- llms.txt is a proposal that assistants may or may not read. It helps where it is used and costs nothing where it isn't.
- It is a snapshot. Once you add it to your theme, it doesn't update itself when your catalog changes.
