Shopify app detector
Enter any Shopify store's address to see the apps it uses: reviews, email and SMS, upsells, loyalty, search, chat, payments and SEO. The detector reads the homepage and a product page, since many apps only load on products, and shows where it found each one. Free, with no login.
How to See What Apps a Shopify Store Uses
- 1
Enter a store's address
Any Shopify store's homepage. Its own domain and its .myshopify.com address both work.
- 2
Two pages are read
The homepage, and a product page linked from it or taken from the store's public catalog, where review and upsell apps usually load.
- 3
Apps are listed by what they do
Each app with its category and the page it was found on. Apps we can't name yet are listed by their extension name.
What This App Detector Looks For
Finds the apps a Shopify store runs from its homepage and a product page: theme app extensions and the scripts apps load, grouped by what they do, with where each was found.
- Theme app extensions, the way most apps add themselves to a theme today
- Scripts and styles loaded from apps' own servers
- The homepage and one product page, with where each app appears
- SEO apps called out first, and the store's theme
How to Read the Results
A report you cannot interpret is just a longer way of saying something is wrong.
Named apps
Matched to a known app by its theme extension or the servers its scripts load from. These are reliable: the app is installed and running on that page.
Listed by extension name
A theme app extension we don't have a name for yet. The extension name is usually close to the app's name; search for it in the Shopify App Store.
Homepage or product page
Where the app was found. Reviews, upsells, wishlists and size guides often load only on product pages, which is why both are read.
Not listed
Apps that work only in the admin, at checkout or behind a login leave nothing on the storefront to find.
How Can I Tell What Apps a Shopify Store Uses?
Most Shopify apps add themselves to a store through theme app extensions, which load files from a path that includes the app's name. Others load scripts from their own servers. Both are visible in the page a store sends to every visitor.
The detector reads those traces on the homepage and a product page. It doesn't guess from how a page looks, or from text on the page, so a store mentioning a payment option in its FAQ doesn't count as using that app.
Checking Your Own Store's Apps
Run it on your own store to see everything that loads for shoppers. Compare the list with Settings, then Apps in your Shopify admin: anything here that you no longer use is code left behind.
- 1Run the detector on your homepage.
- 2Compare the apps found with the apps installed in your Shopify admin.
- 3For an app you removed that still appears, remove its code: turn off its app embed in the theme editor, or delete its snippet from the theme files.
- 4Run it again to confirm it's gone.
Common Questions About a Store's Apps
What the results usually mean, and what to do with them.
The finding
An uninstalled app still shows up
Why it happens
Older apps added code to theme files directly, and uninstalling doesn't remove it.
The fix
Find the app's snippet or script tag in the theme code and remove it, or ask the app's support for removal steps.
The finding
Several apps do the same job
Why it happens
Two review apps or two popups, often one left over from a test.
The fix
Keep one. Each extra app adds scripts every shopper downloads.
The finding
No SEO app found
Why it happens
Many stores rely on the theme alone for titles, structured data and image handling.
The fix
Check the store's SEO with the free Shopify SEO audit to see what the theme leaves out.
The finding
An app is listed by its extension name
Why it happens
We haven't matched that extension to an app name yet.
The fix
Search the extension name in the Shopify App Store; it is usually close to the app's own.
What This App Detector Cannot See
Every tool has a boundary. Knowing where this one ends is what keeps you from over-reading it.
- It reads two pages, so apps that load only on other pages (cart, account, a landing page) aren't found.
- Apps that work only in the Shopify admin or at checkout leave no trace on the storefront.
- Password-protected stores can't be checked.
Found Your Store's SEO Gaps?
ShopSEO audits every product, collection and page in your store, writes missing titles, descriptions and alt text, and adds structured data through one app embed, so you don't need a stack of SEO apps.
